In addition to being about personalities, and many specific people, the book “Personal Intelligence” also recounts stories that include a variety of places and objects. Here are some of those places featured in the book (with a few people included as well).
- The Residential College, where I studied at the University of Michigan. Modeled on the houses at Cambridge, Harvard and Yale, it was an intense environment for learning.

- Kirkland Hall of Yale University, home to the Yale Department of Psychology. Robert Abelson thought about story-understanding there, and formulated his analysis of correlation coefficients there. Professor Peter Salovey and I did a good deal of our work on emotional intelligence there as well.
- Linda Greenlaw’s boat, the Hannah Boden, which she sailed from Gloucester Harbor in Massachusetts, encouraging herself forward while a part of her wanted to turn back.
- Karntnertortheater of Vienna, where Beethoven performed the Ninth Symphony for the public and the Austrian royalty.
